Time in the garden has inspired abstract florals!

Ahhh...my time off from "everything art" has brought about a better balance of art and life...I'm really enjoying the break and summertime. Puttering around in the garden (I just mounted a very large stag horn fern last week), tackling a few home projects I've been putting off (I bought wall paper for my bathroom during the covid shut down, I finally got it up), enjoying walks around one of the local bird sanctuaries...and just being out in nature, out of the studio and opening myself up for something new to flow in.

I've also continued with my Studio Sessions Sunday class...which I love and it keeps my fingers in paint and papers! Teaching a class is so inspirational for me...not only does it keep me on my creative toes, but my students bring so much to the studio on Sundays. It's really a favorite day of the week!
It's also a small class of 6 to 7 students and has been so wonderful to spend time together and support each other on our creative paths. If you'd like to be on the class waiting list, shoot me a message and I'll be happy to let you know when I have a spot open.

Creating Abstract Florals
All of the above has me in the studio a few days a week, inspired to explore with papers and paint and see what I can make of it. You probably already know I very often paint flowers...it's kinda my "go to"...I've just been playing to see what I came up with. Juxtaposing cutout photos of flowers, mixed in with paint has been on my art table for awhile...lately I've been taking that and going even more abstracted. For a change, I am not attached to the end result...just open to seeing what shows up.

You can see the flowers above in process if you're curious...

Abstract Florals in Various Art Forms

Above is another floral on 24x18 mixed media paper....start and finish. Creating on paper is one more way to not get too attached to your piece...it's only paper, not a more expensive canvas or cradle board. I enjoyed all the twists and turns this one took to get to the end. Once I settle down a bit and get back to my computer...I'll be re-working my website and adding all the new pieces onto my site...I'll be sure to let you know.
In the meantime, I came across a few ideas and thoughts about abstract flowers that I think are worth sharing...whether you're an artist or an art lover, incorporating abstract florals into your life can enhance your surroundings and inspire your creativity. Here are some practical ways to do this:
Home Decor: Abstract floral prints can brighten any room. Consider framing a piece of abstract floral art to hang on your wall. The colors and forms can create a focal point that ties your decor together.
DIY Projects: Try your hand at creating your own abstract floral artwork. Gather some supplies like acrylic paint, canvas, and brushes. Experiment with different techniques and let your creativity flow.
Art Classes: Many local art studios offer classes focused on abstract art. Joining a class can help you learn new techniques and meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for creativity.
Floral Arrangements: Even in floral arrangements, you can embrace the abstract. Play with shapes and colors, creating mixtures that are less about realism and more about artistic expression.
Art Shows: Attend local art exhibits or shows. Here, you can discover talented artists who specialize in abstract florals. This can provide inspiration and help you build a deeper appreciation for this beautiful art form.
Embracing abstract floral paintings can transform your artistic perspective and help you develop a more profound connection with nature. For those interested in exploring this medium further, consider checking out abstract floral paintings from various artists.
The Impact of Abstract Florals on Mental Health
The benefits of engaging with abstract florals extend beyond aesthetics. Numerous studies indicate that art, in general, can positively affect mental health. Viewing and creating artwork can reduce stress, improve mood, and increase overall well-being.
Abstract florals can be particularly soothing. Their vibrant colors and soft forms can transport viewers to a serene space. The act of painting flowers in an abstract manner can be meditative, allowing your mind to wander and find peace amid chaos.
Spending time surrounded by nature also has profound psychological benefits. Art that reflects aspects of nature, like flowers, can remind us of the outdoors, helping to alleviate feelings of anxiety and stress.

it will enhance the richness of your life.
