I'm excited to be teaching this assemblage workshop and looking forward to sharing all my tips and techniques with you.  Assemblage art combines mundane, everyday objects in new and surprising ways, requiring the viewer to question their relation to the world of objects around them.  Click the link below to register.

Layers, layers layers... you can never have enough layers in your mixed media art... building the history in a painting is what makes it intriguing and draws the viewer in.

This workshop is all about adding layers to your art with papers, marks, scratches, paint and more. Choosing a color palette, subject matter, design and composition... getting it figured out before you approach your canvas and then learning what gets to stay and what needs to be eliminated to make a better painting.

This workshop will be held at the San Diego Watercolor Society studio and gallery in the Arts District Liberty Station in San Diego, in their beautiful and roomy classroom. I'll be demonstrating layering techniques and sharing the best supplies to use for your mixed media art in this workshop. You will be working on several pieces of mixed media art throughout the workshop.

Private Group Classes & Workshops

If you're interested in doing a mixed media or assemblage class with me, consider gathering a group of friends or friendly artists, and schedule a private class that can be tailored to what you'd like to learn more about and explore.

If you want even more mixed media painting while mixing it up with your friends ...how about a private painting class where you can all paint, learn and laugh together?  Classes are limited to you and four of your besties...keeping the class small and intimate and you'll all leave with a painting to remember your day together...and maybe even fire up your inner artist!  This workshop is for all levels of painting skills.  Just click the button below and send me a message with your info and I'll get back to you and chat about the details.

Layers, layers layers in your mixed media or lots of bits and pieces in your assemblage art...you chose the class you'd like to share together.  Building the history in a painting or piece of assemblage art, while enjoying creative time with your friends is what memories are made of...it's what makes life intriguing and draws the viewer in. These workshops are all about adding layers of history to your art and your friendships. All levels welcome and all supplies are provided.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Tanya

I LOVED the Multimedia class!  I was completely out of my element because I don’t do that style of art at all but Denise makes you feel so comfortable and confident.  Everything is there for  each person and set up so nicely (even little candies and a gift).  Every step is demonstrated, then you have the tools to do your own.  Small class so you get LOTS of attention from all aspects composition, color harmony and cohesiveness.  I had a great time, learned a lot and will go back again!  HIGHLY recommend this very fun and informative day!  Cant wait to go practice all my new skills.  Tanya Abel - ArtistsForGood.Net

Mona

I have taken several classes with Denise in person and online and enjoyed each one immensely. It is so easy to learn from her because she makes the class so much fun and goes to great lengths to make you successful in your art. Not only is Denise a talented artist and experienced teacher, she is one of the most delightful people I have ever met!

Ariane

Denise has a knack for combining demonstration, introduction of materials and techniques that allowed me a new way seeing and making art.  I loved the class so much and began my second class when the pandemic protocols moved us to the world of Zoom. Denise is a patient and encouraging teacher with a great way of identifying the existing elements that make a work in progress come alive, while offering suggestions for improvement. I’m so glad that she will be offering classes online again!"
